The Club has been involved in a number of projects locally as well as supported many organisations and events in the Chinchilla and District community. The Club has also provided financial assistance to numerous Lions District projects, National projects and International projects.

The Club has also been a great supporter of Lions International through the Melvin Jones program with over twenty Melvin Jones Fellowships presented over the years, four of which were upgraded to Progressive Fellowships.

In addition the Club has awarded nine James D Richardson Awards and one Bill Tresize Fellow.

Chinchilla Lions Fundraiser:

Chinchilla Meals On Wheels Building

The Club was the major fund raiser for this project and organised construction. For many years the Club actively maintained the buildings and grounds.

Over recent years the Club has continued to support the Meals on Wheels with donations and purchase of required plant and equipment.

Chinchilla Lions Fundraiser:

Chinchilla Lawn Cemetery

The Club was actively involved in the establishment of the Chinchilla Lawn Cemetery both in the planning and initial construction. Over the years other financial assistance has been provided to improve and maintain this facility.

Over recent years this involved refurbishment of both the main gates and the large cross.

Chinchilla Lions Fundraiser & Project:

Lions Club Den

Some years ago the Club was able to procure a lease on a block of land from the then Chinchilla Shire Council.

Over the years through the blood, sweat and tears of many members the Club has established a headquarters for itself.

This is not only used to house the Club’s equipment (e.g. Cold Rooms, Jumping Castles etc.) it is also used for Club Board meetings, social gatherings and is also available for the use of local organisations.

Chinchilla Lions Fundraiser:

Illoura Home For The Aged

Back in the mid 1960’s a local committee was formed to raise funds and funding for the establishment of an aged care facility in Chinchilla.

After many years of planning and fund raising the facility opened in May 1976. Prior to construction the Lions Club of Chinchilla was the major contributor to the fund raising appeal.

For many years this facility was managed and operated by a local committee and throughout this time the Lions Club continued to offer financial support on a yearly basis. In 2007 the facility was taken on by Southern Cross Care.

Chinchilla Lions Fundraiser & Project:

Helipad Chinchilla Hospital

Back in the 1990’s one of our members came up with a suggestion to construct a helipad at the local hospital to aid in the evacuation of patients needing treatment that was not available locally.

After liaising with the hospital authorities the helipad was constructed by the members of the Club. In recent years, utilising government funds, the size of the helipad was increased considerably to cater for the larger helicopters that are now in use.

Chinchilla Lions Fundraiser & Project:

Lions Park Chinchilla

Many years ago the Club approached the local Council and was successful in having an area of undeveloped land set aside and designated as a Lions Park.

Since that time the Club has fully developed the Park. Toilets were constructed, playground equipment installed, landscaping completed, a new fence was constructed and an irrigation system installed.

Our most recent addition to the Park was the installation of two electric BBQs (one specifically designed for the use by disabled persons).
